Storylines

Privacy Policy

Last Updated: June 2026

Your memories are yours. Always.

We built Storylines to help you capture and relive the moments that matter most. That's a relationship built on trust — and we take that seriously.

Here's what we commit to you: We have never sold your personal data to third parties, and we never will. We don't use your photos, videos, or voice recordings to train AI models. The face and scene recognition that helps you organize your memories runs entirely on your device — no photos or videos are sent to any external service for AI analysis. To keep your memories organized across devices, the resulting face group labels and numerical face descriptors are securely synced to our servers. And when you choose to share a story, you decide who sees it.

This policy explains in plain language what data we collect, why we need it, and what you can do with it. The legal detail follows — but the short version is: we're on your side.

The following describes how First Time Media Inc. (collectively, "Storylines," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares your personal information in connection with our mobile application (the "App"), the websites we own and operate that link to this Privacy Policy (collectively, the "Site"), and our related services, social media pages, emails, and other electronic communications (collectively, and together with the Site and the App, the "Platform"), and the choices you have with respect to your personal information.

In this Privacy Policy, the term "Public" refers to content shared with "Everyone" within the app, based on the visibility settings selected by the user.

1. Quick Summary

(For convenience only; the full terms below control.)
  • Your photos and videos are yours — always.
  • We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
  • All face and vision recognition analysis is processed on your device — not in the cloud. The resulting face group labels and numerical descriptors are synced to our servers for cross-device organization.
  • You control who can view or contribute to your storylines: Followers Only (the default) or Public.
  • Making a storyline public is always your explicit choice. You are solely responsible for the content you make public, including any photos or videos of minors.
  • You may delete your account and content at any time, and we will complete server-side deletion within 45 days (including backups).

2. Use of On-Device AI for Face and Vision Recognition

To help you organize and retrieve your media, Storylines uses on-device artificial intelligence (AI) for face and vision recognition. This analysis occurs solely on your personal device — not on our servers. The organizational metadata it produces (face group labels and numerical face descriptors) is securely synced to our servers to enable cross-device access and search. Your photos and videos remain under your control at all times.
  • The App may use local (on-device) models to group similar faces, identify scenes, and recognize patterns (e.g., birthdays, trips, milestones) to support automatic organization and faster search.
  • No photos or videos are sent to any third party for AI processing or model training.
  • Face group labels and numerical face descriptors generated on your device are securely synced to our servers solely for cross-device organization and are not shared with third parties.
  • Storylines generates numerical face descriptors on your device to group visually similar faces. These descriptors and the face group labels you assign are synced to our servers to provide cross-device organization and search. They are not shared with third parties and are permanently deleted when you delete your account.

3. Personal Information We Collect and Its Sources

We may collect personal information from or about you in the following ways: Personal Information You Provide Directly
  • Contact Information: name, email address, and social media handle.
  • Account Information: username, photo, profile picture, nickname, preferred language, timezone, and information about yourself, your child, or pet (such as nickname, birthdate, height and weight).
  • User Content: personal information may be contained in photographs, videos, voice memos, audio recordings, and other media or content you upload to the App.
  • Financial Information: transaction details and billing information for purchases. Payment card data is handled by our payment processors; we do not store full payment card details.
  • Communications: information you provide in support requests, feedback, surveys, or community interactions.
  • Preferences: account preferences and marketing or communications preferences.
Unless we specifically request it, we ask that you not provide sensitive personal information (e.g., information related to racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religion, health, biometric identifiers, criminal background, or trade union membership) on or through the Platform.

4. Personal Information We Collect from Third Parties

We may obtain personal information about you from third parties, including:
  • Information about ad clicks and app installs from marketing platforms.
  • Purchase information from Apple, Google, and other payment platforms.
  • Storylines usage activity from analytics platforms.
  • Shipping information provided by other App users when ordering photobooks or other products as a gift.
  • When uploading via Google Photos: photos/videos selected for upload and profile information registered to Google Photos. This information is not saved to our servers.

5. Personal Information Collected Automatically

When you open the App or visit our Site, information about you, your computer, or mobile device may be automatically collected, such as:
  • Usage Information: how you interact with the Platform, session length, pages or screens viewed, navigation paths, and access times.
  • Device Information: device IDs (such as Apple IDFA or Google AAID), operating system, hardware and software versions, screen size.
  • Location Information: precise location if you authorize it; IP address for approximate location. See the "Location Information" section below.
  • Other information: sessionID and userID.
Like many online services, we and our third-party partners use tracking technologies to facilitate automatic data collection. Please see the "App Tracking Technologies" section for more information.

6. How We Use Your Personal Information

Providing the Platform and Services
  • To create, administer, monitor, and troubleshoot accounts.
  • To provide the content, features, products, and services that you request.
  • To provide technical support and send service-related communications.
  • For platform maintenance, data hosting, and reporting.
  • To facilitate in-App purchases.

Marketing and Optional In-App Product Recommendations
  • To send you marketing-related emails (you may opt out at any time).
  • To facilitate social sharing functionality that you choose to use.
  • To display in-App product recommendations related to your milestones. These can be turned off via App settings.

Research and Development
  • To perform analytics and research aimed at improving the Platform.
  • For data analysis, testing, and developing new features.
  • For identifying usage trends and determining the effectiveness of promotional campaigns.

AI-Assisted Media Organization
We use on-device tools to help you organize, categorize, and retrieve your photos and videos. All AI analysis — including face detection and scene recognition — occurs entirely on your device. The resulting organizational metadata (face group labels and numerical face descriptors) is securely synced to our servers to enable cross-device access and search, but is not shared with third parties.

AI-Generated Videos and Third-Party Video Services
As described in our Terms of Service, Storylines offers an optional service that uses a third-party provider to create animated personalized videos ("Studio videos") from your User Content. If you use this feature, selected photos and videos from your account are transmitted to that third-party provider solely for the purpose of generating your video. We also reserve the right to create one or more surprise videos from your User Content using this service at no charge to you, as described in the Terms of Service. In both cases, your content is transmitted to the third-party provider only for video creation and is not used to train AI models or for any other purpose. Please review the Terms of Service for full details.

Aggregating and/or Anonymizing Personal Information
We may aggregate and/or anonymize personal information so that it will no longer be considered personal information, and use or disclose such data for any purpose.

Compliance and Safety
  • For fraud prevention, audits, and regulatory compliance.
  • For maintaining the safety, security, and integrity of the Platform.
  • For enforcing our terms and conditions.

Promoting Storylines and Finding New App Users
We may work with social media companies and other third parties to help us advertise our business and find new users. These companies may use device identifiers, SDKs, and similar technologies to collect information about you for interest-based advertising purposes. We do not sell or "share" (for cross-context behavioral advertising) your personal information.

7. Public Storylines

What "Public" Means
Storylines gives you the option to set a storyline to one of two visibility settings:

Followers Only (default): only approved followers you invite can view the storyline. If you have not invited anyone, the storyline is effectively private — no one else can see it.

Public: the storyline is accessible to any person with a link, and may be discoverable by search engines, social media preview tools, web crawlers, and other automated systems.

Making a storyline Public is always a deliberate, opt-in action. The default visibility of every new storyline is Followers Only, meaning it is visible only to followers you have approved. Until you invite followers, no one else can see it.

What Happens When You Make a Storyline Public
When you set a storyline to Public, you should be aware that:
  • Any person anywhere in the world — including people you do not know — may be able to view, screenshot, download, share, or embed the content of that storyline.
  • Search engines, social media platforms, and other third-party services may index, cache, or display your public content in ways outside our control.
  • We cannot guarantee that content once made public can be fully removed from all third-party caches or indexes, even after you change the storyline back to Followers Only or delete it.
  • Metadata embedded in your photos and videos, including location data (GPS coordinates), timestamps, and device information, may be visible to viewers of your public storyline. You are responsible for reviewing and removing sensitive metadata before publishing.

Your Responsibility for Content in Public Storylines
By making a storyline public, you represent and warrant that:
  • You have the legal right to publish all photos, videos, voice memos, voiceover recordings, and other content included in that storyline.
  • You have obtained any necessary consents from individuals who appear in or are identifiable from the content.
  • The content does not infringe any third-party intellectual property rights, privacy rights, or any applicable law.
You are solely responsible for all content you choose to make publicly accessible through the Platform. Storylines is not liable for any consequences arising from your decision to make a storyline public, including any exposure, misuse, or redistribution of that content by third parties.

Children's Photos and Videos in Public Storylines
Important: Storylines does not permit making "Family" or "Child" category storylines public. However, other storyline types (such as Travel storylines) may contain photos, videos, or voice recordings in which a minor appears or can be heard. If you include such content in any storyline and make that storyline public, the following applies:
  • You, as the account holder, are solely and exclusively responsible for any decision to make publicly accessible any content that depicts, identifies, or could reasonably be used to identify a minor.
  • You represent and warrant that you are the parent or legal guardian of any minor who appears in public content, or that you have obtained explicit consent from that minor's parent or legal guardian prior to publishing.
  • You acknowledge that publicly accessible photos, videos, and voice recordings depicting or identifying a minor may be viewed, saved, or redistributed by unknown third parties, and that Storylines cannot control or prevent such activity once content is made public.
  • You agree to immediately change the visibility of any storyline to Followers Only or delete it if you become aware that it contains content depicting a minor that you no longer have authorization to publish, or if you have any concern about the safety or privacy of that minor.
Parental responsibility: We strongly encourage all users to carefully consider whether any content depicting minors should ever be made publicly accessible on the internet. A photo that seems harmless in isolation may, in combination with other public content, reveal a child's identity, location patterns, or other sensitive details. Please exercise caution.

Storylines reserves the right to remove any public content that we determine, in our sole discretion, to depict minors in a manner that raises safety or privacy concerns, with or without prior notice.

Location Metadata in Public Content
Photos and videos often contain embedded GPS coordinates and other location metadata (EXIF data). If this metadata is present in files you upload, it may be visible to viewers of your public storyline. Storylines does not automatically strip location metadata from publicly shared content. You are responsible for removing sensitive location information before publishing. Please consult your device's camera settings or a photo editing application to review and remove EXIF data if desired.

Changing Visibility or Deleting Public Content
You may change a storyline from Public to Followers Only, or delete it entirely, at any time from within the App. Changes take effect promptly on our Platform; however, content that has already been indexed, cached, or shared by third parties may remain accessible through those third-party systems. We are not responsible for third-party caches or copies of content that was previously public.

Follower Relationships
The "Followers Only" visibility setting limits your storyline to approved followers. When you use this feature, we collect and store follower lists, follow requests, and related relationship data as part of your account. You may remove followers or change your storyline's visibility at any time. Follower relationship data is deleted when you close your account, in accordance with our retention policy.

8. Sharing of Personal Information

We may share personal information with the following parties or as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy:

Service Providers
We share personal information with companies that provide services to us and to you, including website hosting, data analysis, payment processing, order fulfillment, photo book printing, video template creation, customer service, and auditing. Payments are processed by trusted processors such as Apple, Google, Stripe, and GMO. We do not store payment card information.

Third-Party Video Service Provider
If you use our optional animated video feature, or if we create a surprise video for you, selected photos and videos from your User Content are shared with a third-party video service provider solely to generate the video. This content is not used to train AI models or for any other purpose. See Section 6 and our Terms of Service for details.

Other Users and the Public
By using the Platform, you may elect to disclose personal information to other users or the public, including through public storylines (as described in Section 7), social sharing activity, and by inviting other users to view your content.

Law Enforcement and Government Authorities
We may disclose personal information to comply with applicable law and regulations, cooperate with public and government authorities, respond to legal requests, enforce our terms, and protect the rights, privacy, safety, or property of Storylines, you, or others.

Business Transactions
We may disclose personal information in connection with a sale, merger, reorganization, or other business transaction involving all or part of our business.

Related Companies and Professional Advisors
We may share personal information with our subsidiaries, affiliates, and professional advisors (lawyers, bankers, auditors, insurers) where necessary.

Social Media and Promotional Partners
We may work with social media companies and other partners to promote our App and find new users. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

9. Security

Your personal information is held on secured servers and is not processed for any purposes other than those indicated in this Privacy Policy. We use reasonable efforts to protect your personal information from unauthorized access or acquisition. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is fully secure. AI-related media analysis for face and vision recognition occurs exclusively on your device. The organizational metadata produced by that analysis (face group labels and numerical face descriptors) is securely synced to our servers for cross-device access, but no photos or videos are transmitted for AI processing.

10. Cross-Border Transfer of Personal Data

Storylines is based in the United States. Your personal information may be collected, used, and stored in the United States and potentially other countries. Privacy laws in those locations may not be as protective as the laws in your home country. For individuals in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom: whenever we transfer your personal information to another country, we take reasonable steps to safeguard the data, including adherence to standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission or the UK Information Commissioner's Office. Please contact us for further information.

11. Retention of Personal Information

We will retain your personal information only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. When you delete your account, we delete your photos, videos, voice recordings, and associated metadata from our systems within 45 days, including from backups. Free accounts that have had no activity (no login) for 1 year or more may be deleted. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you before doing so, giving you the opportunity to log in and preserve your content. Public storyline data (including content visible to third parties) is removed from our Platform promptly upon deletion or change to Followers Only; however, third-party caches and indexes are outside our control.

12. App Tracking Technologies

Storylines is a mobile application and does not use browser cookies. However, we and our third-party service providers use the following technologies to collect information and support the functioning of the App:
  • Tracking IDs: device-level identifiers (such as Apple IDFA or Google AAID) used by third-party service providers to associate multiple sessions with a unique device or user, for purposes such as analytics and attribution.
  • Local storage: data stored on your device by the App to save preferences, session state, and other information that helps the App function correctly between sessions.
  • Software Development Kits (SDKs): third-party code embedded in the App and used for purposes including analytics, marketing attribution, social media integration, and features such as photobook printing. SDKs may collect device and usage information directly.
You can limit the use of device advertising identifiers through your device's privacy settings. On iOS, go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. On Android, go to Settings → Privacy → Ads. Limiting ad tracking may reduce the relevance of any advertising you see but will not affect your ability to use the App.

13. Location Information

We gather location data where you have expressly authorized us to do so. We use location information to improve your user experience, catalog images by location, and serve relevant content. We also use IP addresses to verify identity and mitigate fraud. Note: as described in Section 7, photos and videos you upload may contain embedded GPS metadata. If you publish a public storyline, that metadata may be visible to viewers. You are responsible for managing location metadata in your content before publishing.

14. Your Choices

You can update your personal information directly within your account settings. To request account deletion, contact us at the information listed below.

15. Privacy of Children

Our Platform is only available to those who are the age of majority in their jurisdiction, and in all cases is not for use by anyone under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EU). If you are a parent or guardian and believe we may have obtained information directly from a child under these ages, please contact us immediately. Any child-related data (e.g., nickname, birthdate, milestones) stored within the App is controlled by the parent or guardian account holder and can be deleted at any time. Important: As described in Section 7, if you choose to include photos or videos of minors in a public storyline, you are solely responsible for that decision and its consequences. Please review Section 7 ("Children's Photos and Videos in Public Storylines") carefully before publishing any content depicting a minor.

16. Notice to California Residents

California residents have the right to know, access, correct, delete, and limit the use and disclosure of sensitive personal information, as well as the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (as defined by California law). Storylines does not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You may submit verifiable consumer requests by emailing us at the address below. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

17. Notice to Nevada Residents

We do not sell personal information under Nevada law. Nevada residents who wish to exercise their sale opt-out rights may submit a request to us using the contact information listed below.

18. Additional Information for Europeans

You have the right to access, port, correct, delete, restrict, and object to processing of your personal information. Complaints may be submitted to your local data protection regulator.

19. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Significant changes may be accompanied by notification and/or a request for consent, as required by law. If we make material changes to how AI features interact with your media, or to how we use or share personal information, we will provide prominent in-app notice or email prior to the effective date. Your continued use of the Platform following posting of changes constitutes your acknowledgement of those changes.
